I had the honor of hosting 14 women today at a peaceful urban oasis in my city in celebration of the first day of Autumn. Some of the women in attendance were women I was meeting for the first time and some I’ve known for close to 20 years. I continue to be pleasantly surprised by those whose presence I am graced with when I am open and ask for the divine feminine to come together with me.
The wheel that was put in motion back in March as the Spring equinox passed to initiate a year of seasonal celebrations of and with women brought this amazing, beautiful and spirited number of souls together today for a few precious hours to rest, rejuvenate, share and be enveloped in the heat and coolness of an ages old practice of sauna and cold plunge.
Does the place you live in have something like this to experience? Would gathering those who could benefit from such a thing be something you’d like to do?
I’m celebrating having lived in the same city for thirty years this year, that is not where I was born or was raised in, though I have been raised in other ways by it, and by the communities I’ve been fortunate enough to weave a connecting thread through – stay in any mid-sized city long enough and it seems inevitable that this will happen.
What do you know about the place you live in? Do you feel at home in it?
Consider the community or communities you’re a part of for a while and determine what, if anything connects them – are you the connector? Do you feel closely connected or a bit on the periphery?
Today’s gathering brought these and other questions to mind and I’ve been contemplating them throughout the day, especially as I read through Octavia Butler’s Parable of the Sower – more on community soon.
