For the majority of my life I’ve been surrounded by rivers, in my youth by the Ohio and in my adult life by the Monongahela, Allegheny and Ohio (the picture above is not any of those, rather it’s of other water in Iceland that I was also surrounded by at one point in my past). Have you also been surrounded by particular elements of the Earth in your life that have been meaningful to you in some way?
Today is the day to love the part or parts of Earth that are surrounding you that you’ve taken respite in – be it in your youth or now, at whatever stage of life you’re in. Take however long you can to actually be in this part of the Earth if you can and if not then take time now to close your eyes and let the memory of whatever the place is that is meaningful to you fill your heartmind with the same peace it did in your past.
If you are moved to visit this place while reflecting on it then make a plan to go there and trace your steps to where you felt safest, held and perfectly ok in the world. Take this practice with you and offer the innocent love you have for the Earth in whatever way feels best to you, perhaps it will look like leaving an offering for the spirit of the place or is a larger portion of time spent there stewarding the area if need be. Be as creative, hopeful, open and loving as your heartmind will allow.
Repeat as many times as you feel called to.
