I had the opportunity recently to experience a gathering of individuals in a local church space for an evening of Ecstatic Dance. The theme of the night was “Play” and the age range of people in attendance was infant up to 70 so I knew there would be plenty of exploring and fun – what I didn’t anticipate, however, was how hard the tile over concrete floor would be for my back!
Aches and pains of getting older aside, I had some idea of what to expect from having talked to others who had attended previous events and was curious to see if how much of what I’d heard about the good feels of the gathering would be confirmed….and I’m glad to say that not only did I get the confirmation I was seeking, I also was gifted the connection of friends that I didn’t know who would be in attendance along with the sense of kinship from another 50 or so souls walking this Earth right now.
To say that I loved everything about the experience is an understatement, I will be attending more events in the future and look forward to whatever themes, venues (tho I would ideally love to be outside dancing with the Earth on grass) and other people that present themselves whenever the opportunity arises!
So, when was the last time you danced? Felt a part of everything? Could easily sense your love for all that surrounded (and is in) you?
Is there something, like dance or other movement based practices, that helps you to be more connected and in love with everything? If so, can you take time now to implement that practice for at least 15-20 minutes or longer if you can.
Once complete, take note of what you’re feeling in your body and if your sense of connectedness to everything has increased from when you first began. If there is more that you feel is necessary to increase this sense make it a point to record what it is you can bring into your experience the next time you practice this – perhaps it’s more people or an experiment with how your body is moving in space. Be open – everything will come to you.
